Vila Matas, Enrique

Enrique Vila Matas

Enrique Vila-Matas ( Spanish: Enrique Vila-Matas ; born March 31, 1948 , Barcelona ) is a Spanish writer, one of the most popular, recognized and original Spanish authors of our day.

Biography

Born in Catalonia . Eighteen-year-old debuted in the press. From 1968 he worked as an editor in the movie magazine Fotogramas , removed two short films. Passed military service. In 1974 he moved to Paris , where he lived in the former workshop of the Mines and where he was friendly-guarded by Marguerite Duras (he later described his experience in the book Paris never ends , 2003 ). He returned to Barcelona after the death of Franco .

Creativity

The prose of Vila Matas is fragmentary , it is always a kind of literary game, mystification, inventive drawing. It balances between fiction and fact, a novel and an essay, often referring to a favorite prose writer who does not fit into the venerable classics or the modern mainstream. Among the samples most significant for him in this regard are the life and work of Robert Walser .

In Spanish-language literature, the books of Vila Matas that do not fit into the literary canons are compared with the works of such authors as Roberto Bolagno and Cesar Ira.
