Zootaxa is an international scientific journal on zoology that publishes peer-reviewed articles on the taxonomy, fauna, and taxonomy of animals describing new species and other taxa. It was founded in 2001 in New Zealand and now almost daily frequency of numbers is reached. Combines the efficiency of the electronic version with the traditional paper version intended for libraries [1] .

History
Zootaxa Magazine was founded by Zhi-Qiang Zhang in 2001 . Prints descriptions of new species, genera, and other animal taxa new to science. Preference is given to publications in the form of monographs and revisions of individual animal groups. Monographs (over 60 pages) are published separately and have their own number, while smaller articles are combined in one issue. Until the end of 2011, 3148 issues with 9825 articles were published, including 607 books and monographs. From May 2001 to 2011, over 24 thousand new animal taxa were described in different Zootaxa articles in total [2] .
All journal articles have at least their own free abstracts for downloading, and some full-text options. In other cases, prepayment is required. Zootaxa is indexed in Biosis , Zoological Record and the Institute for Scientific Information in its Science Citation Index Expanded , as well as in Current Contents / Agriculture, Biology and Environmental Sciences [3] .
Among the leading countries by the number of articles submitted by their authors: USA, China and Brazil. Among the topics of the articles, descriptions of individual new species prevail (57%), followed by taxonomic revisions (17%), additions to previously described taxa (11%), reviews of regional faunas (8%), catalogs or lists of species or types (4%) and theoretical work (3%). 57% of all the new species described are insects, 11% are arachnids, and only 8% are vertebrates [4] .

In 2001-2012, the journal described 26,373 new taxa, species, genera, etc. (3 514 - Coleoptera , 3 471 - Diptera , 2 644 - Hymenoptera , 2 549 - Hemiptera , 2 135 - Crustacea , 1 662 - Acari , 1 444 - Lepidoptera , 1 389 - Araneae , 868 - Pisces , 819 - Trichoptera , 539 - Orthoptera , 426 - Mollusca , 420 - Amphibia , 410 - Reptilia , 402 - Annelida , 401 - Myriapoda , 375 - Platyhelminthes ) [2] .
On January 5, 2012, Zootaxa published the 9,000th article.
On January 6, 2017, the 4216th issue of Zootaxa was released [5] .
