He was the fourth in a family of eight children. His father, Alberto, was a baker who also ran a cafe. The artist Augusto Giacometti was his cousin. Received primary education in Chur. It was there that he showed an interest in art, observing sculptures on the marble works of Bianchi. [one]
Giovanni Giacometti studied painting in Munich (in 1886 - 1887 ) and in Paris , at the Academy of Julian (in 1888 - 1891 ), with Adolf Bouguereau and Joseph Robert-Fleury . His work was influenced by Fauvism , the works of Cezanne , Van Gogh , Kuno Amier and Giovanni Segantini . Segantini patronized Giacometti, who lived in the village of Maloia since 1894 in the south-east of Switzerland.
The paintings by Giovanni Giacometti are painted primarily in the Impressionist style; the artist also paid tribute to the fascination with symbolism . He painted landscapes, was a master of portraiture. Giacometti canvases can be seen in most Swiss art museums.
