Redcar and Cleveland is a unitary administrative unit in the northeast of the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire . The administrative center is the city of Redkar .

Content
History
It was formed on April 1, 1996 by transforming into the unitary unit and moving to the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire in the Redcar and Cleveland region of the former non-metropolitan county of Cleveland ( en: Local Government Commission for England (1992) ). It covers an area of 245 km², is washed from the north-east by the North Sea , borders on the east and south with the non-metropolitan county of North Yorkshire , in the west with the unitary unit Middlesbrough and the ceremonial county of Durham . 139 132 people live on the territory of the unitary unit, with an average population density of 568 people / km² (2001) [1] . The largest city is Redkar (population - 36 thousand people).
The Redcar & Cleveland Unitary Council consists of 59 members elected in 22 constituencies. As a result of recent elections, 32 seats on the council belong to the Laborites [2] .
