History
During the Ming Empire, these lands were borderlands that were part of the area of responsibility of the Fuyui guard (ского 卫). At the end of the XVI century, they were swallowed up by the Manchu state of Late Jin , subsequently transformed into the Qing Empire . In 1636, the Chuulgan was formed here (the union of the sovereign princes, after the formation of the PRC, the Chuulgans were renamed “aimaks”) Jirim (哲里木 盟), to which 4 aimaks and 10 hoshuns were subordinate.
After the Xinhai Revolution, these lands were subordinated to the Jaehe Special Administrative Region (热河 特别 行政区), which was transformed into Jaehe Province in 1928. In 1933, Jaehe province was occupied by the Japanese, who transferred it to the puppet state of Manzhou-go ; in Manzhou, these lands became part of Xin'an province.
In August 1945, the 1st Guards Airborne Division took part in the Khingan-Mukden operation , ended the war in the Tongliao region, where for the first time during the existence of the division it was landed.
After the Second World War, these lands, having become part of the province of Liaobei , became the scene of the struggle between the Communists and Kuomintang . When the People’s Republic of China was formed in 1949, aimak Jirim became part of the newly formed Autonomous Region of Inner Mongolia, then aimak included two counties (Tongliao and Kailu) and 5 khoshuns (Jarud, Khorchin-Zoizhzhuntsi, Khorchin-Zoyihoutsi, Khure and Naiman) . In 1951, the city of Tongliao was isolated from Tongliao County. In 1953, the east of Inner Mongolia was separated into a special administrative unit, and the aimak was disbanded. In 1954, it was decided to abandon the special status of the eastern part of Inner Mongolia, and the aimak was restored again. In 1958, Tongliao County was liquidated, and its territory was reassigned to Tongliao City; in 1964, Tongliao County was restored. In 1965, from the aimak Hulun-Buir to the aimak Jirim, the khoshun Khorchin-Yuichzhuntsi was transferred.
In 1969, aimak was transferred to the province of Jirin; in 1979 he was returned to the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
By the Decree of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China of November 9, 1985, the city district of Kholin-Hoto was formed from part of the lands of Hoshun Jarud. In 1986, by the decision of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Tongliao County was liquidated, and its territory became part of the city of Tongliao.
In 1996, Hoshun Khorchin-Yuichzhuntsi was transferred from the aimak Jirim to the aimak Khingan.
By the decree of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China of January 13, 1999, the aimak Jirim and the city of Tongliao were liquidated, and instead of the aimak, the urban district of Tongliao was formed; the former city of Tongliao became the Khorchin district in its composition.
