Water striders [1] ( lat. Gerromorpha ) is an infraorder of Hemoptera insects from the suborder of bugs (Heteroptera). Due to the modified structure of the limbs, they are able to run on a film of surface tension [2] [3] . Gerromorpha live in close association with bodies of water (usually fresh), feeding mainly on invertebrates that have fallen into the water [2] [3] . Five species of water striders from the genus Halobates are common in the open ocean [2] [3] [4] . Some members of the group are able to dive [2] . The infraorder includes about 1900 species [3] . Fossil representatives are known from the Cretaceous sediments [3] . The most famous Gerromorpha are water striders (Gerridae).
