Biography
She studied at the New York school for girls Brearley School . She started dancing at the age of six, but dreamed of becoming an actress. Privately studied with the stars of modern dance, Hani Holm and Helen Tamiris. She entered Sarah Lawrence College, where among her teachers were Bessie Schonberg and Merce Cunningham . Cunningham introduced Childs to Yvonne Rainer , who invited her to the Judson Ballet Theater ( 1963 ). Until 1968, Childs performed as a choreographer, then there was a break in this work.
In 1973 she founded her own company. I came to the extreme minimalism of expressive means. She staged at the ballet company Mary Rambert , at the Lyon , Berlin and Paris Opera, at the Bavarian State Ballet, etc. In addition to ballet performances, she staged operas from Baroque composers to the present day - from Gluck , Mozart and Wagner to R. Strauss , Schoenberg and F .Glass .
