Lennart Samuelson ( Swede. Lennart Samuelson ; b. November 8, 1948 , Eskilstuna , Sweden ) - Swedish scientist, Ph.D. ( 1996 ), historian of economics, professor ( 2001 ). Member of the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies (AAASS) ( 1985 ).

Biography

Graduated from Stockholm University ( 1973 ). In 1970 - 1971 he trained at Moscow State University at the Faculty of Economics . During his studies at the university, he became interested in the history of Russia. In 1973− 1978 he studied at graduate school : he studied the history of Leningrad . The inaccessibility of the Soviet archives for foreign researchers did not allow to prepare a dissertation. After that he worked as a guide, translator at the News Press Agency in Stockholm . Since 1991 he has been working at the Institute of Economic History of the Stockholm School of Economics . At the same time in 1996−2001 he worked at the Swedish Military Academy.

In 1996 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic: “Soviet defense planning: MN Tukhachevsky and the military-industrial complex” (1996). The main areas of research: the history of the formation and development of the military-industrial complex of the USSR (since 1992 ), the Gulag system. He is the author of publications on the Russian education system, the experience of teaching history at school and the work of local lore in the secondary school No. 59 in Chelyabinsk . In 1994, he first visited Chelyabinsk. Since 1996, he has been studying the socio-economic history of Chelyabinsk based on materials from the central archives, OGACHO. Participant in conferences on the problems of modern history of Russia and the history of the South Urals. In 2007, in Stockholm, he published the book Tankograd: The Hidden History of the Russian Rear. 1917−1953 ”(in Swedish), based on many years of research at the OGACHO and central archives. For the book “The Red Colossus on the Caterpillars: Russia's Economy in the Shadow of the Wars of the 20th Century” (in Swedish) was awarded the prize of the Swedish Military Academy (2000).
