Monument to Taras Grigoryevich Shevchenko in Cherkasy - a monument to the Ukrainian poet , writer, artist and thinker Taras Grigoryevich Shevchenko . Installed in the city in 1964 .
General Information
The opening of the monument to Taras in Cherkasy took place in 1964 and was part of the program of events for the 150th anniversary of the poet. It is located on the corner of Shevchenko Boulevard and Dashkevich Street, next to the Drama Theater , thus compositionally completing the square named after the poet. The authors of the monument were sculptors M.K. Vronsky , A.P. Oleinik , architect V.G. Gnezdilov . The sculpture was made in the Art Fund of Ukraine . The height of the monument is three meters, with a pedestal - seven. The lower part of the monument is decorated with a granite carved composition of characters from the poet’s works - Katerina, Prometheus and the blind kobzar. At the top of the monument is written: T. G. Shevchenko. 1814-1861 .
