Description
The size of the bees is small to large (5 - 21 mm). Some American species specialize in pollination of representatives of the cactus family ( Cactaceae ).
Distribution
Of the three genera, two are common only in South America. The genus Lithurgus is more widespread, and is also represented by three species in southern and central Europe.
