The performance of Moldova at the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 , which was held in the capital of Ukraine in the city of Kiev , was the first Eurovision song contest for Moldova. The country was represented by the band “ Zdob si Zdub ” with the song Bunika Bate Doba .

National Selection
The national selection was held on February 26, 2005 at the National Palace in Chisinau. Leading were Aurelia Vasilike and Valeriu Myrza. The winner was determined by televoting (50%) and an expert jury (50%). Zdob şi Zdub won the televoting while the Millennium group became the favorite of the expert jury. Zdob şi Zdub eventually won the song “ Boonika bate doba ”. The song was written by Roman Yagupov to the music of Mihai Ginku.

Interesting Facts
The founder of TV Moldova, Elena Camersan, announced the results from Moldova. [1] Zdob si Zdub decided to “make a rematch” and performed at Eurovision 2011 in Dusseldorf , but showed the worst result.
