David Wilson ( born David Wilson ; January 14, 1884 , Erwin , Scotland -?) Is a Scottish professional footballer. Played 475 matches in the Scottish Football League . In 1913 he played for the Scottish national team in an international match. Having completed his sports career at the age of 40, he worked as a manager of the football clubs Nelson and Exeter City .

Biography

Wilson has three brothers who also played professional football. His brother Andrew also played for Scotland , James played for St. Mirren , and Alex played for Oldham Athletic .

After finishing his sports career, David Wilson worked as a trainer and stock broker [1] .

Football career

Wilson began his football career as a junior at the Irwin Meadow club . His professional career began in 1901 when he signed a contract with the Scottish First League club St. Mirren . He was a substitute in the first season, but went on the field twice in 1902-1903 and scored a goal [2] . In 1903, he moved to the Hamilton Academic Club of Great Britain, where he spent one season after playing five matches [2] . In 1904 he moved to England and entered the club of the Second Division of the Bradford City Football League . He participated in 12 matches and scored one goal in two years. At the end of the season of 1905-1906 he left the club [3] .

Wilson signed a contract with the Lancashire League club Oldham Athletic in the summer of 1906, played 38 matches for this club, scoring 2 goals. In 1907-1908, Wilson went on the field in every match of the club. He scored two goals in the season of 1909-1910, in which the club has already entered the First Division of the Football League . Wilson played in this club until the 1914–1915 season , when football competitions were interrupted due to the outbreak of World War I. [3]

On April 5, 1913, David Wilson played for Scotland in a match against England at Stamford Bridge Stadium. David's brother, Andrew Wilson, also played for the Scottish team . In that match, the Scots lost - 0: 1 [4] .

After the war, Wilson continued to play for Oldham Athletic. For fifteen years of playing for this club (1906-1921) he played 368 matches and scored 16 goals [3] .

In 1921, Wilson joined the Nelson club of the third northern division of the Football League [5] . He was a gaming manager. Wilson played 34 matches, scoring 3 goals. One goal scored from the penalty spot - the first such goal in Wilson's career. The following year he played 30 matches. In the same year, the team won the right to play in the Second Division. In the season of 1923-1924, he played another 31 matches for Nelson and ended his career as a football player at the age of 40 years [3] .

Subsequent Career

Wilson worked for some time as a manager at the Nelson club, but left the club at the end of the 1924-1925 season. Then he worked as a broker on the stock exchange for 3 years, after which he was invited as a trainer to the Exeter City club. From March 1928 to February 1929, Wilson worked with the team for 42 matches (11 wins, 10 draws and 21 losses). In general, the club performed mediocre, taking the penultimate 21st place [6] [7] .
