The common name "Natik Army Laboratories" (or Natick Army Laboratories ), or just Natick Labs , often distributed to the entire center, in fact, refers only to the largest unit in its structure - the US Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center (NSRDEC). ).
The center as a whole is one of the main places of development and testing in laboratories and on the grounds of individual diets , personal protective equipment , entrenching tools , uniforms and equipment to ensure the US Armed Forces, mainly for individual purposes. Thus, it develops rations , clothing and ammunition , tents , parachutes and the like. SSC occupies 78 acres (320,000 m 2) on its main Natik campus and an additional 46 acres (190,000 m 2) in neighboring communities. The main campus is located northwest of Natick Center and is bordered by Lake Kochaichuat . A total of 1,957 employees (159 military personnel , 1,048 civilians and 750 contractors ). In fiscal 2006, funding for installations was about $ 1,000,000,000, and numbers get more than $ 135,000,000 annually in the local economy by setting wages, utilities and local contracts. Established by the commander of the US Army Brigadier General , who is located at the site of Aberdeen, Maryland .
Missions
The SSC includes facilities designed for research and testing of materials (textiles, combat rations) and human capabilities (volunteers for researching human capabilities) as part of modeling environmental extremes (height, heat, cold, wind, etc.). Requirements for improved soldering led to solutions in food irradiation and freeze drying methods. Improving body armor, new military parachute technologies, and increasing the level of military clothing designed for use in various environments.
History
The beginning of the Quartermaster Research Foundation on Nagik, approved by Congress in October 1949, began in November 1952. A year later, the QRF was renamed the Quartermaster Research and Development Center and four years later as the quartermaster of the science and technology team. July 1961 led to the activation of the US Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine in Natik. In November 1962, QREC was renamed the Natik Laboratory and the following year the Food and Container Institute moved to Natik. In July 1967, the production of clothing and textiles and research fund moved to Natik. In October 1992, the NRDC was renamed the US Army Equipment Development Center.
