The city arose in connection with the development of oil fields on the shelf of the Caspian Sea and is located on its shore 65 [7] km south of Makhachkala . The city is located on the Caspian lowland and stretches from the northwest to southeast along the coastline of the Caspian Sea for more than 10 km. From the north and west, the valley in which the city lies is bordered by low chains of the foothills of the Greater Caucasus . Pushkin-Tau Mountain rises above the city, revealing traces of wind erosion. The distance from Moscow by rail is 2,145 km. The distance to the Samur post on the border with Azerbaijan is 125 km, to Baku - 329 km.
Etymology
The name “Yiz bir bash” is translated from the Kumyk language as the Trail of one head [8] , or the Trail on the top of the mountain [4] .
Management
There are no divisions into districts as of 2016. However, within the city limits in the west of the city stands out the historical center with the general development plan of the Soviet period, as well as a number of areas of private development without a general plan.
Climate
The climate of Izberbash is transitional from moderate semiarid to subtropical dry [9] . The climate is strongly influenced by the Caspian Sea , due to which autumn is long and warm, and spring comes with a delay. Winters are mild, snow lasts only two weeks a year, February is usually the coldest month. The sea does not freeze (the average water surface temperature in February here is +3.5 ° C [10] ), however, ice floes from the northern Caspian are driven to the coast, especially numerous in severe winters [11] . Summer is long and hot [12] .
The average annual temperature in Izberbash is positive: +12.7 ° C, average monthly temperature in January +0.8 ° C (minimum –17 ° C), average monthly temperature in July +24.0 ° C (maximum +37.7 ° C). The duration of the warm period is 270 days. Precipitation on average 260 mm per year; the rainiest month is October (46 mm) [13] . The average annual relative humidity is 69.5%, the average wind speed is 5.0 m / s.
In 1952 , the city had its own hydrometeorological station, which was organized by Kheilik Grigory Grigoryevich , a native of Kerch [11] .
Recreational Infrastructure
The main beach of Izberbash is located at the end of Ushakov street. It is quite long (about 3 kilometers in length) and quite wide (200 meters in width). Local sand has a fine-grained structure, sometimes mixed with shells. Natural stone ridges play the role of natural breakwaters and protect beaches quite well from surge waves [14] . There are usually no storms or hurricanes in the Izberbash area. The depth of the sea also decreases gradually: the sea reaches a depth of 1.5 m about 70 meters from the coastline [15] . In summer, water on the sea surface in Izberbash warms up to an average of +24.5 ° C. The salinity of the water near Izberbash is low (varies on average from 11 ‰ in February to 12.5 ‰ in August) [10] .
The beach has all the necessary infrastructure: there are changing cabins, sunshades, benches and urns. The beach also has showers with thermal water. Sand is regularly sifted by a sand-cleaning machine. Rescue posts are also equipped. There are two asphalt parking lots near the beach for the convenience of access to its territory. Cars are parked on the lower platform, the upper one is for minibuses.
History
The Russian archives store data on the existence in the territory of modern Izberbash of the historical settlement of Ullu-Izbar in the region of Mount Izberberg , which arose in the 17th century and was repeatedly destroyed and restored during the wars. Mention of him, for example, is present in the Campaign Journal of 1722 by Peter I [12] .
The availability of oil in the city area became known back in the 1920s [7] . The first modern workers' settlement arose here in 1931 . In 1935, the first large oil wells began to be developed here. The status of the city was received on June 28, 1949 [12] . Since then, the population of the city has been continuously increasing.
In 2005, Izberbash took first place according to the results of the competition, the most comfortable city in Russia in the category of cities with a population of up to 100 thousand inhabitants [16] .

Where beyond the cliffs Caspian gray-haired,
Sings an eternal song
Built our Izberbash young
In the roar of the first chisels.
Chorus
Caspian gray-haired, coast of the sea, beckons with beauty
My Izberbash is a city of labor, with you in my heart.
Caspian gray-haired, coast of the sea, beckons with beauty
My Izberbash is a city of labor, with you in my heart.

In the sea, the oilman hurries to watch,
Think big about oil.
