Dawson County is the Texas State District of the United States of America . For 2000, 14,985 people lived in it. According to the US Census Bureau, in 2008 the county had a population of 13,692. [1] The district center is the city of Lamisa .

History
Dawson County was formed in 1876 . It was named after Nicholas Mosby Dawson, a soldier who died during the Texas Revolution .
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,336 km², of which only a very small fraction is the water surface.

Demographics
According to the 2000 census, there were 14,985 residents in the okrug, comprising 4,726 households and 3,501 families. The population density was 6 people per square kilometer. There were 5500 residential buildings, with a coverage density of 2 buildings per square kilometer. The racial makeup of the population was 72.47% White, 8.66% Black or African American , 0.3% Native American , 0.25% Asian, 16.56% from other races, and 1.77% were from two or more races. 48.19% of the population are Hispanic or Latino.
Of 4726 households, 35.1% raise children under the age of 18, 59.4% of married couples living together, 11% of single women, 25.9% did not have families. 23.9% of the total number live on their own, 13.3% of people over 65 living alone. On average, 2.69 people per household, the average family size was 3.2 people.
