Sigwald Strut-Haraldsson

At the commemoration of Harald the Blue- Toothed, Sigwald swears to expel Jarl Hakon

Sigwald Strut-Haraldsson ( dr. Sigvaldi Strut-Haraldsson ) is the leader of the Jomsvikings , the successor of Pallatoka , the son of the jarl Skone Strut- Haralda and the brother of Thorkell long . He was distinguished by wisdom rather than courage.

When he was a simple yomswiking, Sigwald was defeated by a 12-year-old boy, Wagn Okesson , the grandson of Pallatoka. The difference in their characters and views often confronted them with each other, as was the case, for example, in the Battle of Hyörungavag .

Seeking the daughter of the Vendian ruler Burislav , Sigwald promised him the independence of the Wends from the Danes . He sailed to Zeeland , where he sent a message to Sven Viloborodom that he had brought important news, but he was ill and could not bring them to him. Enraged by curiosity, Sven himself set off for the ship, where he was captured by the Yomsvikings. In order to be released from captivity, the Danish king had to guarantee the independence of the Wends and Jomswikings from the Danes in addition to a cash ransom.

At Sigwald’s father’s funeral, Sven persuaded the latter to attack the Norwegian jarl Hakon . This led to the Battle of Hyörungavag , where the Yomswikings were defeated, and Sigwald covered himself with shame.

In 1000, Sigwald betrayed Olaf Tryggvason in the Battle of Svolder , persuading him to go on a campaign, and then leaving him in the midst of the battle.
