Biography

Pal Teleki de Seki was born in 1879. By origin of the Greek, his family was the descendants of Greek immigrants to Hungary. He graduated from the University of Budapest , a geographer by training, published an atlas of the Far East .

Since 1910, a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. In 1919, he took an active part in the struggle against Soviet power in Hungary .

He was a member of the Hungarian delegation in negotiations with the Entente countries after the First World War . Since 1920, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Prime Minister of Hungary . Since 1922, he taught at the University of Budapest .

In 1939, he was again appointed Prime Minister of the country. On November 20, 1940, Hungary became an ally of the Axis countries . In December 1940, Teleki signed an agreement on eternal friendship with Yugoslavia . In 1941, he also became Minister of Foreign Affairs. Despite his involvement in the adoption of anti-Jewish laws, he reacted negatively to the prospect of Hungary participating in the World War on the side of Nazi Germany.

In April 1941, Germany aggressively tried to drag Hungary into the war against Yugoslavia . Being unable to prevent this, on April 3, 1941 Teleki committed suicide , expressing in a suicide note his indignation at the violation of the obligations given by Yugoslavia.
