Biography
Born April 16, 1928 in the village. Bakers (now Cherkasy region of Ukraine) in a family of hereditary riverboats.
During the Great Patriotic War, he was a member of the partisan detachments "Shevchenko", "Fighter" and "Bozhenko", which performed military operations behind enemy lines on the territory of the Kanevsky and Korsun-Shevchenkovsky districts of the Cherkasy region .
He graduated from the Kiev vocational school number 3 in the navigational specialty (1946). From 1946 to 1992 he worked in various positions in the river fleet system of Ukraine. In 1960 he graduated in absentia from the Gorky Institute of Water Transport Engineers.
He worked his way from a locksmith of the Kiev Shipbuilding Shipyard, a sailor, helmsman to the captain of the flagships of the passenger fleet - the ships “N. Krupskaya "," Turgenev "," Chekhov ", " V. I. Lenin ” (during the years of independence of Ukraine -“ Maxim Rylsky ”).
For excellent production and financial performance, on September 14, 1966, the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Hammer and Sickle Medal. At that time, Zhuk Petr Pavlovich became the youngest Hero of Socialist Labor of the Ukrainian SSR.
In April 1986, he participated in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. He was one of the first watermen to evacuate residents from a 30-kilometer-long zone contaminated by radiation through river transport.
He was awarded two Orders of Lenin, several medals, diplomas of the Supreme Council, the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the Kiev City State Administration, and the title “Honored Worker of River Transport”.
Actively engaged in social activities. He was a deputy of the Podolsky district council in Kiev, deputy chairman of the Council of Veterans of the Podolsky district.
In 1997-2009, captain for the protection of ships. He lived in Kiev . He died on April 19, 2009. He was buried in the Forest Cemetery .
