History
The mausoleum of Bibi-Khanum, located opposite the cathedral mosque of Timur, was laid for the mother, wife and other women from the Timurid clan.
According to Clavijo's descriptions, the mother of Bibi-Khanum was buried first. Here Saray Mulk-khanim herself was buried. In 1941, the anthropologist Mikhail Gerasimov discovered the grave and studied the remains of the buried.
In 2000, at the initiative of the First President of Uzbekistan I.A. Karimov monument has been restored. It is included in the ensemble of mausoleums of Samarkand. The modest appearance is deceptive: the interior is fabulously beautiful ivory stalactites.
