Content
History
The first settlers of the Heartland were William Orser and his son William Jr. in 1762. William Orser came to Hatland from New York with his wife and six children. When his wife died of illness, he married a widow, Mary Blake, who also had six children. The couple later decided to have six more children. The land was completely inhabited in 1797.

Languages
Under the Official Languages Act, English is official in the Heartland, less than 20% of the population speaks French.
People
Alden Noulan (1933-1983) lived in Heartland from 1952 to 1962, where he worked as a journalist, he wrote this period in several of his poems, as well as in several parts of The Miracle on the Indian River, published in 1968.
Economy
Heartland has a Humpty Dumpty chip factory. And there is also the motor company & Ross Ltd, one of the ten largest in Canada. Tourists also visit the city, most of them want to see a covered bridge.

In Heartland, there is a community school that accepts children from kindergarten, and students in all grades up to grade 12. This is an English public school within school district number 14.
The Heartland has a public library of Dr. Walter Chesnat. Heartland also has hospitals, and a fire station. There is also a licensed nursing home.
The city has a Royal Canadian Mounted Police Station whose main office is located in Woodstock .

Fires
July 15, 1907
Because of the arson, a fire starts, because of which most of the city burns down. After that, the city is rebuilt.
August 25, 1980
Fire destroys many businesses on Main Street.
Floods
Being built near the St. John River , the city typically suffers from floods in spring. Ice jams threaten the Heartland Bridge.
Architecture and Monuments
The Heartland has a covered bridge that crosses the St. John River. The bridge was built in 1901, and in 1921 it is covered. It consists of seven spans of the coating, and four reinforced concrete slabs. The total length of the bridge is 391 meters, making the Heartland Bridge the longest covered bridge in the world.
The main street often suffered from floods and fires in the past, but despite this, it still has several historic buildings, although significantly modified.
