The 2009 presidential election in Slovakia was held on March 21 (1st round) and April 4 (2nd round). In the second round, the incumbent head of state, Ivan Gasparovic , was a member of the small Movement for Democracy, but supported by two ruling parties - “ The Course - Social Democracy ” and the Slovak National Party .
7 candidates participated in the elections. The turnout in the elections was 43.6% in the first round and 51.7% in the second.
