The first two generations of an SUV (1985–2012) in some markets (Japan, etc.) are known as Nissan Terrano . In particular, right-hand drive Terrano from Japan are popular in Russia and the CIS.

Based on the first generation, the Nissan Mistral was created.

In 2013, in the markets of developing countries (Russia, India, etc.), the name Nissan Terrano was given to a technically completely different car - a compact crossover based on Renault Duster .

First Generation

Production of the first generation SUV began in 1985.

This car received the name Pathfinder in the American market, in other countries it was called Terrano. In the USA, it was first produced in a three-door version, 5-door cars appeared only in 1989 (the first modernization of the car took place in the same year).

The basis of the design was a powerful frame, the front suspension of the car was a double-lever, torsion bar, an integral beam was used in the spring suspension of the rear wheels. Also included in the vehicle package was a transfer case and a rear differential lock.

Based on this model, the Nissan Mistral was created. Known as the Nissan Terrano II in the European market, and as the Ford Maverick in the American. The car is distinguished by a modified body and interior, the technical basis is the same.

Second Generation

Production of the first-generation Nissan Pathfinder continued until 1996, after which a new second-generation car was shown in the US and Japan. The changes affected both the external appearance and the internal configuration of the car. The design is based on a combination of a supporting body and frame.

In the restyled models, the distinctive features are: the radiator grill, built-in fog lights, the shape of the boot lid (fifth door), the form of mounting mirrors

Third Generation

In 2005, Nissan introduced the all-new Pathfinder at the North American International Auto Show . Starting with the next generation, the name Pathfinder is the only one for all markets.

The car was built on the basis of the Nissan Navara pickup truck. At the heart of the machine is a frame structure, independent, with powerful springs and stabilizers, a suspension on double triangular levers, a rack and pinion steering mechanism with a rather short gear ratio, ALL MODE 4x4 all-wheel drive system, which has successfully established itself on models such as X-Trail and Murano , 6 -step manual and 5-speed automatic gearbox.

In general, the car became larger than its predecessor, it became possible to place the third row of seats, thanks to the wide transformation capabilities, there are 64 options for the various construction of the cabin.

For the European market, Pathfinder was assembled at the Nissan factory in Spain.

Security

The car passed the Euro NCAP test in 2006:
