Title

The submarine is named after the Grand Duke of Kiev Vladimir Svyatoslavich , at which the baptism of Russia took place. Earlier, the battleships “ Saint Vladimir ”, “Saint Prince Vladimir”, “Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir” were named in his honor.

It was originally planned to name the ship by the name "St. Nicholas" in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and in memory of two sailing frigates, bearing the name "St. Nicholas" in the 18th century.
