Basic Information
The name comes from the city of Troyes in France . Now it is widely used in banking , jewelry for measuring the weight of precious metals , as well as in some other areas, for example, in cosmetics for measuring the weight of especially valuable ingredients.
The international designation of a troy ounce of gold , silver , platinum and palladium, respectively, XAU, XAG, XPT, XPD.
The weight of investment coins is often indicated in fractions of a troy ounce.
Troy weight system
The English gold pound (or Troy pound ) is 12 troy ounces or 373.2417216 g. Currently, it is practically not used for measuring weight. It should be distinguished from the "regular" English pound ( Eng. Avoirdupois pound ).
Troy gran , the mass of which coincides with the mass of pharmacy and trade gran, is 1/480 mass of a troy ounce [2] .
