For the first time in its history, the Japanese national team became the winner of the championship, having defeated the hosts of the championship , who had won two previous world championships, and two other favorites: the national teams of Sweden and the USA .

Six countries wishing to host the World Cup

Six countries, Australia , Canada , France , Germany , Peru and Switzerland , announced their desire to host the World Cup in 2011. The German Football Association has confirmed its plans for the tournament on January 26, 2006 . This proposal was fully supported by German Chancellor Angela Merkel .

Switzerland withdrew on May 29, 2007 , citing European football focused on France and Germany, and Switzerland had no chance of fighting these countries. On August 27 of that year, France also withdrew. According to media reports , this was done in exchange for Germany's support for their bid to host the men's European Football Championship 2016 . A bit later, Australia ( October 12, 2007 ) and Peru ( October 17, 2007 ) also voluntarily quit the race. Two candidates remained - Canada and Germany. On October 30, 2007, the FIFA Executive Committee in Zurich decided that the 2011 Women's World Championships will be held in Germany.

Stadiums

After that, the German Football Association (DFB) called for the election of German cities ready to host this tournament. Nominations of twelve selected cities were submitted to FIFA in August 2007. On September 30, 2008, the DFB Executive Committee decided to use nine stadiums for the tournament.

For the opening of the World Cup, the Olympic Stadium in Berlin was chosen, where in 2006 the final of the men's world soccer championship was held . Semifinals were held at the stadiums Borussia Park ( MΓΆnchengladbach ) and the Commerzbank-Arena ( Frankfurt ). The latter also accepted the tournament finals. The match for 3rd place was taken by the Rhein-Neckar-Arena in Sinsheim .

Qualification

The qualification tournament began in July 2009. As the host country, Germany automatically qualified for the final part, and the rest of the teams had to win tickets to the championship in their continental confederations. A separate qualifying tournament was held in Europe. All other confederations used their continental tournaments ( Asian Championship 2010 , African Championship 2010 , Oceania Championship 2010 , South American Championship 2010 , CONCACAF 2010 Women's Gold Cup ) to identify participants in the world championship. One butt match was also held between the UEFA and CONCACAF zones.

Referees

By decision of FIFA, 51 girls [1] [2] went to the final list of arbitrators.

Members

FIFA considered the prospects of increasing the number of teams from 16 to 24 to reflect the growing global popularity of women's football and the women's World Cup. However, on March 14, 2008, the FIFA Executive Committee decided to abandon this idea.
