Volksparkstadion ( Volksparkstadion ) - the stadium in the Barenfeld ( Bahrenfeld ) area in the west of Hamburg , the home arena of the Hamburg football club. Capacity - 57,000 spectators (51,500 at international matches). It was built on the site of an old stadium designed by architect Gustav Elsner and opened on April 30, 1998 . From June 30, 2001 to July 2007, the stadium officially bore the commercial name AOL Arena , until August 2010 - HSH Nordbank Arena , and until June 2015 - Imtech Arena . During the period of using sponsor titles, the stadium was assigned the non-commercial name Hamburg Arena during European Cup matches (due to legal restrictions on the UEFA sponsorship rules).

In 1974, the old stadium hosted matches of the World Cup .
In early 2004, UEFA accepted this stadium in an exclusive club of "five-star stadiums" .
On May 12, 2010, the arena hosted the first ever Europa League final in which Atletico Madrid beat Fulham 2: 1 in London.

Fans' cemetery
In September 2007, General Director of FC Hamburg Christian Reichert announced the start of construction of a cemetery for fans of the club, which will be located near the stadium. It will be designed for 500 seats, and the entrance to its territory will be decorated in the form of a football goal [1] . The opening of the cemetery took place on September 9, 2008 [2] .
