In the XIV-XV centuries, Val-d'Orcia was the object of settlement and cultural development from the city-state of Siena , with the goal of realizing an idealized model of the “aesthetically sustainable landscape”. The striking beauty of the human-developed landscape of Val-d'Orcia, with its flat plains over which hills of almost perfect conical shape rise, inspired many artists, especially representatives of the Siena School . Their paintings, created in the Renaissance , reflect the beauty of this blooming area. [one]
Since 2004, Val d'Orcia has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in Italy .
