Basic Principles

Guard service - a type of applied use of trained dogs for protection. When preparing a dog for guard duty, the dog handler develops her skills in guiding the guide, things, territory, as well as in finding, detaining and escorting the offender. Sentry dogs are used in many departmental units of Russia (Ministry of Internal Affairs, Federal Penitentiary Service, police, border troops, etc.). A well-trained guard dog is able to independently make a decision in a critical situation, assess the degree of danger of an outsider to the guide, and also effectively detect the intruder in various external conditions when a person could not cope with such a task (search for the intruder in the dark, patrolling a vast territory, detecting the offender by smell trail).

Dog Selection

Large, physically strong and hardy, distrustful of strangers, vicious, with good eyesight and smelling dogs are selected for guard duty. Shepherd dogs ( German , South Russian , Caucasian , Central Asian , Catalan ), black terriers , rottweilers , Moscow watchdogs are more suitable for this work. To protect the garden and home, you can use other dogs, quite vicious and distrustful.

Training

The preparation of the guard dog consists in the development of anger and distrust of strangers, obedience to the owner, developed by the clear implementation of the techniques of a disciplining training course. Also, from an early age, distrust of strangers should be caused. It is better to start training from an early age, during the game or walks you need to develop courage in the puppy, to familiarize him with the surroundings.

Initially, classes are held during the day, in the presence of a trainer, then in the evening, at dusk, at night, in various weathers, in the absence of a trainer who leaves the shelter for the dog only with strong barking. Gradually reduce the gap from the start of the dog to the inclusion of an assistant, change the nature of his actions (if the assistant runs away from the dog all the time, she will get used to it). The dog’s actions at the checkpoint should be unambiguous: bark and boldly rush to detain the assistant when he tries to penetrate the fence along the board, through a digging or hole in the fence. The more tricks there are, the better- the dog will learn to work correctly in different conditions.

As soon as the dog learns to be wary for a long time and loudly bark outsiders, a search of the area begins with it. Depending on the needs and the specific needs of the guard, the dog can be trained to paralyze free objects and passages into or between buildings. To maintain constant “combat readiness” the dog needs to be systematically trained.
