The blue catchment , or the blue aquilegia ( Latin: Aquilegia caerulea ), is a species of perennial herbaceous plants of the family Ranunculaceae ( Ranunculaceae ).

Ecology and distributionForests and meadows from the foothills to the subalpine zone of the mountains of the western United States , from Montana and Idaho to California and New Mexico at altitudes of up to 3550 meters above sea level.
Botanical DescriptionThe plant is 60–70 cm high, the stems are branched at the top and form a sprawling bush 40–50 cm across.
The leaves are large, bluish-green, twice triple.
Flowers up to 6 cm in diameter, single or semi-double, sepals pointed, pale bluish-lilac, white petals, spur up to 5 cm long, straight, thin, pale lilac.
In Culture

It is applied to rabatok , rock gardens and mixborders . It is used for cutting, in dried form, for dry flower arrangements and panels . Prefers sandy clay and clay soils. It is photophilous, but normally develops in partial shade.
Varieties:
- Aquilegia caerulea 'Alba' and Aquilegia caerulea 'Candidissima' are pure white flowers.
- Aquilegia caerulea 'Citrina' - lemon yellow flowers.
- Aquilegia caerulea 'Suprea' - copper-red flowers.
- Aquilegia caerulea 'Rosea' - red flowers, often double.
- Varietal group Aquilegia caerulea Origami. The bush is 50–55 cm high. The flowers are 7–8 cm long, white, blue, red, pink-white, yellow.
- Varietal group Aquilegia caerulea Music F1. The bush is 100-110 cm high. The flowers are 9-10 cm in diameter, white, yellow, red-yellow, red, pink-white, white-blue. Used for the background of the mixborder [3] .
Flowering begins in May. The duration of flowering is 25-30 days [4] .
