The Mercedes-Benz Arena [2] ( Mercedes-Benz Arena ) is a stadium in Stuttgart , Germany , the home arena of the Stuttgart football club, with a capacity of 60,449 spectators. It was built in 1933 according to the design of the architect Paul Bonac .

The stadium hosted matches of the World Championships in 1974 and 2006 (4 and 6, respectively), as well as 2 matches of the European Championship in 1988 (England - Ireland 0: 1 and USSR semi-final - Italy 2: 0).
Information
From July 30, 2008 over the next 30 years, the stadium will be called the Mercedes-Benz Arena (the museum of the automobile concern is located not far from the stadium). After the conclusion of a sponsorship agreement with the automobile concern, it is planned to increase the capacity to 60 thousand spectators, and also to remove the racetracks, making the stadium exclusively football. For this transaction, " Stuttgart " will receive about 20 million euros. [3] According to the UEFA statute, the stadium cannot bear a sponsorship name when holding international matches (games of the Champions League and Europa League), since these governing bodies have rules prohibiting corporate sponsorship from companies that are not official partners in tournaments. For such cases, the alternative name is used "Stuttgrat Arena".
