History of coat of arms

Until 1967 , being a village, the city was called Yagelnaya Guba. For the first time in the lists of settlements of the Murmansk region, this village is mentioned on May 15, 1957 . On October 16, 1967, he received the name of Gadzhievo, in memory of the Hero of the Soviet Union, Captain 2nd Rank Magomet Gadzhiyev , who died on May 12, 1942 in a battle on the K-23 submarine. On September 14, 1981, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR , the working village of Gadzhiyevo received the status of a closed city with the new name Rocky, but in open correspondence it was called Murmansk-130. By order of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 3-p, on January 16, 1994, the name Rocky became official. In 1999, the city of Rocky was renamed Gadzhiyevo.

At the beginning of 1995, the administration of the closed administrative-territorial unit of ZATO Rocky announced a competition for the best project for the city’s coat of arms, and in April 1995 approved one of the projects as an official symbol.

Having learned at the end of April 1995 that the city administration was working on the compilation of a city coat of arms, the chairman of the Severomorsk heraldic society, Yu. V. Rubtsov, developed his project and suggested it to the administration. Despite the fact that the design of the coat of arms was somewhat late, the city administration found it possible to consider it, after agreeing with the labor collectives and members of the Board of Administration, to approve it by its Resolution No. 223 as the official coat of arms of the city, canceling its original decision.
