Intronization ( other Greek ἐν-θρονισμός from other Greek ἐν on and other Greek θρονός throne, throne, high seat ), or board (Slavic tracing-paper from Greek) - solemn ceremony (public worship ), during the time of which the construction of the newly elected bishop (currently - the primates of the churches) to his department . In the modern Orthodox Church, intronization takes place in relation to both patriarchs and primates of local or autonomous churches, with the rank of metropolitan or archbishop . In the Catholic Church there is only papal intronization .

Byzantium
How exactly the intronization of the Patriarchs of Constantinople in the Byzantine Empire took place and what significance it had, is reported by Simeon Solunsky . On Sunday, in the presence of the emperor (emperors), archons and almost all the people with the participation of all the bishops , the clergy of the city solemnly celebrated the liturgy in the church of St. Sophia . It is necessary, Simeon explains, that everyone should be present during the intronization of their high priest and see the newly appointed Patriarch at the Patriarchal Chair, as our Lord Jesus Christ himself , and receive from him the blessing of his ministry, receive peace from him from the Holy Throne and proclaim him him.
On the appointed Sunday, when everyone gathered in the church, delivered to the Patriarchs of Constantinople, he dressed in full episcopal vestments (with saccos ) and began the liturgy, and the metropolitans and other bishops , having bowed to him as usual, put on sacred robes and were called during the small entrance . Intronization was the seventh and penultimate act in the process of electing the Patriarch of Constantinople in the Byzantine Empire and before the rite of fraternal communion with the primates of other Orthodox autocephalous Churches of the East. The Byzantine rite of the Patriarch’s intronization was preserved in the practice of the Church of Constantinople even after the fall of Byzantium.
In the Russian Church
The worship is known from the moment the first Russian metropolitans appeared. Hilarion of Kiev (died c. 1055) wrote: " Az ... from the pious bishop is priest and confined ." [one]

In the Catholic Church
Papal intronization or Papal intronization mass is the liturgical service of the Roman Catholic Church (serving in the Roman rite , but with elements of the Byzantine rite ) for church investment in the position of the pope . It no longer includes the old millennium papal coronation ceremony. The Catholic Church also has a special liturgical effect of introducing a newly elected bishop to a position called ingress .
