Career

Cesar Delgado began his career in the club " Rosario Central ", where he composed a duet attack with Luciano Figueroa . He spent 3 years at Rosario, playing 65 matches and scoring 14 goals.

In July 2007, Delgado moved to the Mexican club “ Cruz Asul ”, who paid for transfer of the forward 1.5 million euros [1] . In his first season in Mexico, Delgado spent 37 matches and scored 16 goals. The next season, he again scored 16 goals, having spent 33 games. For his performances at Cruz Asul, Delgado was vazan in the Argentine national team . In September 2006, negotiations began on the transfer of the Argentinean to the Spanish Deportivo , which had previously been interested in the forward [2] . The reason for the negotiations was a contract ending in the summer of 2007, but the deal did not take place; moreover, Delgado extended the contract with Cruz Asul for 1 year. In December 2007, the leadership of Cruz Azul announced that Delgado would leave the team, which coincided with the desire of the player [3] . In total for the Mexican club he spent 135 matches in which he scored 103 goals and made 43 assists.

On January 8, 2008, Delgado was sold to the French club Olympic Lyon for 6.3 million euros [1] . In this club, he replaced Fabio dos Santos , who had left for São Paulo , although he had originally planned to replace another Brazilian, Fred [4] . As part of Lyon, Delgado made his debut on January 20 in a game with Lance ; all in the first season he spent 7 games, leaving the bench. In Lyon, Delgado for the second season was transferred to the right flank of the attack, where he began to speak regularly. In the same season, he was injured in the adducting groin muscle [5] , and therefore missed several weeks [6] . On October 21, 2009, Delgado entered the field in the 87th minute of the Champions League match with Liverpool , replacing Lisandro Lopez , and scored a goal that brought Lyon the first, in its history, victory over the English club.

On June 10, 2011, Delgado moved to the Mexican Monterrey [7] . On December 18, 2013, having scored a double in a match against Cairo Al-Ahli , he became the top scorer in the club world championship in his short history. In total, Delgado scored 5 goals in the tournament.

International Career

Delgado began his career with Argentina in 2003, having been called up for a match with Chile [8] . He participated in the national team in the qualifying tournament for the 2006 World Cup , where he spent most of the matches. In 2004, Delgado participated in the team at the America's Cup , where he scored a goal in the final with Brazil , who won the penalty shootout [9] . In the same year, he won a gold medal at the 2004 Olympics , where he spent 6 games and scored 2 goals. In 2005, he played in the Confederations Cup and spent 2 games there [10] .

Delgado’s nickname, “Blonde” ( Spanish: El Chelito ), came from the nickname of his namesake, Marcelo Delgado , nicknamed “Blonde” ( Spanish El Chelo ) and also had light-colored hair.
