The population of the city is 9629 inhabitants (2009) [2] .
Mosjoen was separated as a city and a separate commune in 1876, but then became part of Vefsna on January 1, 1962. It is the oldest city in Helgeland and the second oldest in Nordland .
Geography
The city is located in the lower part of the valley, where the Vefsna and Sherva rivers flow into the Vefsn fjord . The city center is located between these two rivers on a plain near the base of the fjord. The Vefsna River is the largest displacement in Nordland. In addition to the river and the fjord, the city is also surrounded by mountains, green hills and forests. Mount Eufjellet, 814 meters high, located west of the city, is a well-known site.
History
Mosjoen was founded in the 17th or 18th century as a meeting place for local farmers to trade. In 1866, a British company built sawmills here and Mosjoen obtained self-government rights in 1875. The American metallurgical company Alcoa has its own aluminum smelter in Mosjoen.

The city has an aluminum smelter owned by Alcoa .
Traffic
The city is served by Mosjoen Airport, located in Hierstad . The airport was opened in 1987. The E6 highway and the Nordland railway line pass through the Mosjoen area. Mosjoen is located 390 km north along the highway from Trondheim and 90 km south from the city of Mu-i-Rana .
