Cretaceous mountains of the Donetsk Ridge and Svyatogorsk Lavra
Holy Mountains ( Ukr. Holy Mountains ) - the name of the chalk protrusions on the right bank of the river Seversky Donets (near the city named for them Svyatogorsk , Donetsk region , Ukraine ).
The caves in the chalk protrusions were inhabited by monks - hermits who have lived here since time immemorial (according to the assumptions of later historians from the XI century). They are first mentioned in Sigismund Herberstein 's Notes on Muscovy (1526). Around 1624, the Svyatogorsk Uspensky Monastery was founded here, which until the end of the 17th century had not a single ground structure.
