Moroccan Dirham

Dirham (Dh; Arab. درهم ) is the currency of Morocco . Produced by the country's central bank , Al-Maghrib Bank (founded in 1959). Divided into 100 centimes ( Arabic. سنتيم ). The first issue of a dirham, tied to the rate of the French franc , occurred in 1960. Prior to this, Morocco's main currency was the Moroccan franc .

Since 1985, the floating dirham against hard currencies has been supported. Bank cards are issued in denominations of 20, 50, 100, 200 Dh, coins - 5, 10 and 20 centimes, 1/2, 1, 2, 5 and 10 dirhams. $ 1 is approximately equal to 8-10 Moroccan dirham. The exchange rate is quite stable, it is the same throughout the country and is set by the state. Currency over $ 500 is not allowed out of the country without a bank reference.

Coins

The issuance of coins in dirhams was started in 1960, initially coins in 1 dirhams were silver (600 samples). In 1965, coins in 1 dirham made of nickel and silver coins in 5 dirhams (720 samples) were issued. In 1974, the issue of coins in centimes and coins in 1 dirham made of copper-nickel alloy was started, in 1975 - production of copper-nickel coins in 5 dirhams.

Hassan II

Obverse - image of tiller and fish in a fishing net; years of minting above; below face value "5" below "خمس سنتيمات"; in a circle a bead rim. Reverse - coat of arms of Morocco; at the top of the semicircle "المملكة المغربية"; in a circle a bead rim. Herd - smooth, ø - 17.50 mm, m - 2.00 g, t - 1.25 mm.

10 centimes , 1394 (1974), aluminum bronze, FAO issue

Obverse - image of sunflowers and the sun; years of minting above; bottom nominal "10" below "عشر سنتيمات"; in a circle a bead rim. Reverse - coat of arms of Morocco; at the top of the semicircle "المملكة المغربية"; in a circle a bead rim. Herd - corrugated, ø - 20.00 mm, m - 3.00 g, t - 1.43 mm.

20 centimes , 1407 (1987), aluminum bronze, FAO issue

Obverse - at the top of the year of minting, below face value “20”, below “عشرين سنتيم”; image of brooch on the left; in a circle a bead rim. Reverse - coat of arms of Morocco; at the top of the semicircle "المملكة المغربية"; in a circle a bead rim. Herd - corrugated, ø - 23.00 mm, m - 4.00 g, t - 1.30 mm.

½ Dirham , 1407 (1987), copper-nickel

Obverse - image of Hassan II to the left; on the left, “المملكة المغربية”, on the right, “الحسن الاني”; in a circle a bead rim. Reverse - coat of arms of Morocco; years of minting above; below "نصف 2/1 درهم"; in a circle a bead rim. Herd - corrugated, ø - 21.00 mm, m - 4.00 g, t - 1.55 mm.

Muhammad VI

1 dirham , 1423 (2002), copper-nickel

Obverse - the image of King Mohammed VI to the left; on the right "المملكة المغربية"; on the left is محمد السادس. The reverse is the emblem of Morocco, the nominal value is “1” below, on the left is “دردم واحد”, on the right is the minting year “1423 • 2002” Herd - corrugated, ø-24.00 mm, m-6.00 g, t-1.70 mm.
