Life and work

Educated at the University of Gottingen and Königsberg , since 1866 he worked at the Gothic Observatory. Scientific works relate to astrometry . In 1888, he published a new refinement of 3,000 Bradley stars. For many years, the Auvers-Bradley catalog remained the basis of all research on the motion of stars (until the appearance of L. Boss 's Preliminary General Catalog, containing 6188 stars). He studied the influence of the satellites of Sirius and Procyon on the motion of the main stars. He determined the parallax of the Sun from observations of minor planets and the passage of Venus through the disk of the Sun in 1874 , 1882 .

Father of the famous chemist Karl Friedrich von Auvers , grandfather of the physicist Otto Arthur Siegfried von Auvers.
