Ruhnu Island Wooden Church
The church of St. Magdalena ( Est. Ruhnu Püha Magdaleena kirik ) is located on the Estonian island of Ruhnu .
It is known that the church is the oldest wooden building preserved in Estonia . The construction of the church began on November 22, 1643 .
The Stockholm Museum Historiska museet houses a collection of glass paintings from the wooden church of Ruhnu, which is the oldest and most valuable historical glass art in Estonia. Among them are also 6 glass paintings of the 17th century.
When the inhabitants of the island fled to Sweden with the advent of Soviet power in 1944 , then in addition to all church utensils, they also took these glass paintings with them.
The church is run by EELC .
