Story
Alternative reality
Dr. Benjamin Linus is a college history teacher. Once he speaks loudly with fellow teacher Leslie Arzt, they complain about the lack of funding at the school, especially since Director Reynolds forced Ben to look after punished students after class instead of letting him lead a circle of stories. John Locke , the replacement teacher, suggests that Ben himself becomes a director. During class with his most talented student, Alex Rousseau , Ben learns that the director has an affair with a nurse. Ben enlists the help of Arzt in breaking into the nurse's email and tries to blackmail the director with this to take his place, but Reynolds says he will write a bad letter of recommendation for Alex if Ben continues to insist on his. Ben, not wanting to sacrifice his future Alex, retreats. Ben also cares for his sick father, who wishes that he and Ben left the Island and the DHARM Initiative .
2007
In continuation of the events of the previous series, Ben, Ilana Verdanskaya , Miles Strom , Sun Kwon and Frank Lapidus flee the temple after the devastating attack of the Man in Black . Ilana finds out that Ben killed Jacob when Miles uses his ability to talk to the dead. After the group returns to the first survivors camp on the beach, Ilana binds Ben and makes him dig his own grave: so that she can avenge Jacob, who was like a father to her. The man in black comes to the beach and tries to recruit Ben, saying that he wants Ben to follow the Island when he leaves with his followers. After their conversation, Ben is released. Ilana pursues Ben, who explains why he killed Jacob: he was afraid of losing his leading position on the island, was angry because he chose the Island and lost his daughter and could not forgive himself for letting her die. Ilana allows Ben to return to his group.
Continuing the events of the Lighthouse series, Jack Shepard and Hugo Reyes decide to return to the temple. Hurley is trying to stop Jack, as Jacob warned him about the attack on the temple, but they meet Richard Alpert , who leads them to a stranded 18th-century slave ship of the 18th century. Richard decided to commit suicide after the death of Jacob, because he believes that his life on the Island was meaningless. He tries to kill himself using dynamite, but cannot do it because the Island does not give him . Jack convinces him that they are on the Island for a certain reason: they go to the beach and reunite with the group of Ilana. Meanwhile, Miles dug diamonds from the grave of Nikki and Paulo .
Charles Widmore swims up to the island on a submarine.
