Sanatorium (from lat. Sano “I heal, I heal”) is a treatment and prevention institution for the treatment and improvement of mainly natural ( climate , mineral water , mud ) and physiotherapeutic agents, diet and regimen.
Caucasian Mineralnye Vody (KavMinVody, CMS, Cavinggroup) - a group of resorts of federal significance in Russia ( Stavropol Territory ); specially protected ecological and resort region of the Russian Federation , having a coordinating administration. The KavMinVod region is located within the confluence of the Stavropol Upland and the northern slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range (this is the center of the Ciscaucasia ); includes the resorts Pyatigorsk, Zheleznovodsk, Essentuki, Kislovodsk, Kumagorsk (Mineralnye Vody) and the resort area of Naguta .
Caucasian Mineralnye Vody is the largest and unique resort pearl of Russia, which in terms of composition and quality of its climatic-balneological resources concentrated in a relatively small territory has no analogues on the Euro-Asian continent. More than 115 health resorts in the region (at the beginning of the XXI century) specializing in treating dozens of various diseases determine its importance as the country's main, comprehensive and multidisciplinary health resort. This resort area is famous for its picturesque natural landscape, mild healing climate, highly effective healing mud of Lake Tambukan and, of course, unique mineral springs (about 300).
118 health resorts equipped with the most up-to-date diagnostic and treatment equipment [1] and 26 tourist and hotel complexes [2] of the Caucasian Mineral Waters can be used simultaneously by over 40 thousand people [3] .

A brief digression into history
In 1913, more than 37 thousand patients visited CMS (however, there was practically no network of sanatorium institutions; sanatoriums appeared only at the beginning of the 20th century, were created with charity funds and were designed for a very limited number of patients - mainly in the summer season).
During the Civil War, the CavMinWaters fell into complete decline; in 1922, only approx. 7 thousand patients.
In 1928, the number of patients treated reached almost 90 thousand, in 1939-1940 - a little more than 200 thousand.
During the war years, more than 900 thousand wounded and sick received medical care in 83 hospitals of the CMS.
In 1946, about 150 thousand people were already treated at the resorts of the Caucasian Mineral Waters.
Already in 1953, St. 200 thousand patients (reached the pre-war level; in 1950 Kislovodsk accepted 125 thousand patients for treatment ), and in 1956 almost 300 thousand
In 1971, only in the trade union sanatoriums rested 416 thousand people.
By 1980, 82 sanatoriums functioned in KavMinVody (including 37 trade union ones with almost 21 thousand places) and 16 boarding houses (about 2 thousand places; by the end of the 1980s, occupancy totaled up to 40 thousand places), 2 worked , 5 thousand doctors and about 7 thousand people of average honey. staff About 1 million people were treated and rested annually. [4] The turbulent events of the 1990s - the collapse of the Soviet Union, the collapse of the economy, the crisis of worldview, the frenzy of war and civil strife in the Caucasus - could not but affect the resort region. The national world, the territorial unity of the North Caucasus, the very hope of a worthy future for its multilingual citizens have undergone a difficult test. The peoples and leadership of the republics stood it with honor. Today this land is an island of peace and tranquility, harmony and good neighborliness. As before, representatives of more than 100 nationalities live and work here.
1990-1991 - the peak of the health resort business (in 1989 - 1991 in Pyatigorsk resort health resorts they underwent a course of treatment and rested 175-225 thousand people a year, up to 250 thousand [5] ). In the following years, occupancy (attendance) was constantly falling and the peak of the drop in the load of health resorts reached in 1995 . But already since 1996, a steady annual increase in vacationers by 2-3% has been clearly observed (1991 - 100%, 1992 - 60%, 1993 - 45%, 1994 - 16%, 1995 - 15% [6] , 1996 - 16%, 1997 - 19%). The increase in vacationers and health-improving in departmental health resorts in 1998 compared to the previous one amounted to 20%, for trade union - 42%. The average occupancy rate of health resorts in December 1998 amounted to 68%.
In 2000, almost 500 thousand people rested and recovered their health.
Sanatorium-resort base of a specially protected ecological-resort region Caucasian Mineralnye Vody
For resorts of the Caucasian Mineral Waters, spa specialists have suggested indications and contraindications for the treatment of patients: adults, adolescents and children.
