Historical Accuracy
Most of the gods depicted in the animated series are similar to their historical descriptions, and all the Egyptian myths mentioned in the show are genuine. Tutenstein's scepter is presented as something like a magic wand and is fictional, although it is an Egyptian symbol in itself.
Unlike the real-life pharaoh Tutankhamun , who died at the age of 19, Tutenstein (Tutankhansetamun) died at the age of 10. On the other hand, Tutenstein is drawn with a cleft lip , just like the real Tutankhamun. The ancient Senet game mentioned in the animated series really existed, but the exact rules of the Senet game were not preserved, therefore, the rules shown in the animated series are not reliable.
Main characters
Tutenstein (Tuten)
The mummy of a young pharaoh who died at the age of 10. Rude and selfish, but not without positive qualities. He lived a spoiled and lazy life in Egypt , often inventing tricks with his friends to steal gingerbread cookies and toys. He died at the age of ten, was buried and woke up again about three thousand years after that, thanks to Cleo. Having learned that his kingdom is far in the past, he is forced to put up with it, but he makes two new friends in the person of Cleo and her cat Luxor. Forced to spend most of his free time in his sarcophagus, hiding from visitors to the museum, which houses the sarcophagus and himself. Owns the scepter of Was , possessing magic power in the series. Often it plays out to problems with the ancient gods - both because of the aspirations of the latter (for example, Seth, who wants to get the Was), and through his own fault (in particular, he received a punishment from Isis for cheating in the Senet game).
Cleo (Cleopatra) Carter
A 12-year-old smart and well-educated African-American girl who is fond of Egyptology “by inheritance” from her father, a professional Egyptologist, who mysteriously disappeared after finding a mirror of Isis . Accidentally became the cause of the revival of the mummy. Since then, he has often helped Tuten settle and solve the problems he created. He constantly has the CCP with him, providing her with quick access to facts about Egypt. The girl’s name is associated simultaneously with the famous British Egyptologist Howard Carter , who discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun, and the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra . The plot contains hints that Cleo may be a distant descendant of the famous Cleopatra.
Luxor
Cat Cleo. On the night Tuten came to life, Luxor gained the ability to speak the human language, after which he began to perceive Tutenstein as his main master and devote less time to Cleo. The cat goddess Bast showed interest in Luxor. The name of the character is associated with the large Egyptian city of Luxor and its environs, one of the concentrations of many Egyptian archaeological finds, including the Luxor Temple .
Criticism
Common Sense Media gave the show three stars out of five, stating: “The character here is busy due to the combination of childishness and narcissism in him, and his interaction with Luxor and Cleo can be quite funny, but the denouement of the stories is pretty predictable - here he uses his strength to help friends and everything is getting better. But the idea is rather unusual in order to keep the show afloat ” [2] .
The Sydney Morning Herald wrote: “This is the Mummy for children. There is no Brendan Fraser or Rachel Weiss , but comic dialogues - as well as the presence of a talking cat - distinguish the project from other shows for young viewers ” [3] .
