Career
Marcel de Jong began his career as a youth member of the Dutch club De Valk . Then he spent the season with PSV youth. In 2004, de Jong joined the club of the first division of the Dutch championship Helmond Sport , which included 2 seasons. In 2006, de Jong moved to Roda , signing a contract until the summer of 2010, with which he made his debut in the top division of the Dutch championship.
In the summer of 2010, de Jong signed a two-year contract with Augsburg . He made his debut for the new club on August 21, 2010 in the second Bundesliga match against Ingolstadt . In January 2012, de Jong extended the contract for two years [2] . In the summer of 2014, the contract was extended to 2016 [3] , but in January 2015, Augsburg and de Jong terminated the contract by mutual agreement [4] .
Before the start of the MLS 2015 season , de Jong signed a contract with the American club Sporting Kansas City [5] . He made his debut for the new club on March 14 in a match with Dallas . On March 1, 2016, de Jong’s contract with Sporting Kansas City was terminated by mutual agreement of the parties [6] .
March 2, 2016 de Jong signed a contract with the Canadian club of the North American Football League " Ottawa Fury " [7] . June 30, before the start of the fall stage of the season, it became known that Ottawa would not renew the contract with the player [8] .
On July 11, 2016, the MLS club Vancouver Whitecaps announced the signing of a 18-month contract with de Jong [9] .
International Career
De Jong began his appearances for the Canadian national team with a team under the age of 17. In the summer of 2005, with the national team under 20 years old, he participated in the youth world championship , where he spent all 3 games. As part of the first team, de Jong made his debut in November 2007 in a friendly game with South Africa . July 10, 2009 de Jong scored his first goal for the national team, hitting the gates of Costa Rica .
