Biography
Born November 15, 1905 in the city of Kovno .
Member of the Communist Party of Lithuania since 1924 .
- Since 1928 - secretary of the underground district committee of the Communist Party of Lithuania.
- In 1929, he was a political prisoner.
- In 1930 he graduated in absentia from the International Lenin School.
- Since 1930 - Secretary of the underground Central Committee of the Komsomol of Lithuania.
- In 1931 he was sentenced to 6 years of hard labor for revolutionary activity, in 1939 he was imprisoned in a concentration camp.
- In 1940 - Chairman of the Central Bureau of Trade Unions and Deputy Minister of Labor, in 1940 - 1946 - Deputy Chairman of the Council of People's Commissars of the Lithuanian SSR and at the same time in 1940 - 1941 - Commissar of the local industry of the republic.
During the Great Patriotic War 1941 - 1944 - in the Soviet Army. In April 1943, he was transferred to the occupied territory of Lithuania as the commander of an organizational group. Since January 6, 1944 - the first secretary of the Northern underground regional committee of the Communist Party (b) of Lithuania [1] .
- In 1945 - 1950 - Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Chairman of the State Planning Commission of the Lithuanian SSR.
- Since 1950 - First Secretary of the Šiauliai Regional Committee of the Communist Party (b) of Lithuania.
- Since 1953 - First Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Lithuanian SSR.
- From February 19, 1954 to January 24, 1956 he was the second secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Lithuania.
- From January 16, 1956 to April 14, 1967 - Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Lithuanian SSR.
- From April 14, 1967 to December 24, 1975 - Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Lithuanian SSR.
Since January 1976 - a personal pensioner of national importance.
Member of the Supreme Council of the USSR of 2–9 convocations. The delegate of XX, XXII, XXIII [2] , XXIV [3] congresses of the CPSU. Candidate member of the Central Committee of the CPSU ( 1956 - 1976 ).
