Biography
Lev G. Gertman was born on May 20, 1910 in the city of Kokand to a Jewish family - his parents Girsh (Grigory) Izrailevich (1879, Sarapul - 1964, Tashkent) and Beila Aronovna Gertman (1886, Sarapul - 1972, Tashkent) were tailors. The Gertman family moved to the city of Kokand from the city of Sarapul, Vyatka province of Russia in 1907.
In 1926 he graduated from high school in Kokand and in the same year entered the geological department of the physics and mathematics department of SAGU . In 1928, he transferred to the mining department, which was led by Professor M. M. Protodyakonov .
But the unexpected death of M.M. Protodyakonova in March 1930, everything changed dramatically. It was decided to send the whole group of miners in full force to the Moscow Mining Academy named after Stalin to complete his studies. In 1931, all students of this group were already at the Moscow Mining Institute (now the Mining Institute NUST “MISiS” ), one of the six universities into which the Moscow State Academy was divided, received diplomas of mining engineers.
In 1931-1933, Lev G. Gertman worked as an engineer in the capital construction department of the Sredazugol trust, in 1933-1936 he worked as a foreman for installation and testing of the underground gallery (shield) of the I. A. Zhuravlev system at mine No. 2 of the Sulukt mine (in 1930 - the village , now a city in Kyrgyzstan).
In 1936-1940 he was the head of the Mining and Metallurgical Department, deputy director for academic affairs and and. about. Director of the Tashkent Institute for Advanced Studies of Engineering of the People's Commissariat of Industry of the USSR.
In 1937-1942 he was an assistant and senior lecturer at the Department of Development of Formation Fields of the Mining Faculty of the Central Asian Industrial Institute, Dean of the Mining Faculty of SAII.
In 1940, L. G. Gertman defended his Ph.D. thesis on the topic: "Mobile metal mount for excavating powerful coal seams."
From 1942 to 1945, L. G. Gertman led the construction of coal mines in the city of Angren . In 1942-1944 - Chief Engineer and Construction Manager of new mines No. 8, 9, 10 on Angren of the Uzbekshakhtostroy trust. In 1944-1945 he was the head of the mine number 8 of the Uzbekugol trust in Angren.
In 1945-1952, L. G. Gertman worked as the director of the Tashkent Mining College of the USSR Ministry of Coal Industry , and from 1952 to 1968, he was an assistant professor at the MPI Department of Mining, SazPI (then TashPI).
From 1968 to 1971, he headed the department "Economics of mining and exploration" of the mining department of the Tashkent Polytechnic Institute [1]
Lev G. Gertman died on September 21, 1971 in Tashkent and was buried in the Botkin cemetery of the city.

L. G. Gertman is the author and co-author [2] of more than 70 production and research works.

- "The choice of optimal parameters for work in floodplain opencast mines of non-metallic building materials using computers", 1967;
- "Higher geological and mountain education in Uzbekistan for 50 years", 1970,
- "Improving the efficiency of subsoil use in opencast mining of non-ferrous metals (for example, Almalyk mining and smelting plant)", 1970.
Most of them are aimed at solving the problems of developing the coal industry in Central Asia, primarily the Angren region of Uzbekistan, as well as in the field of technical and mining-economic areas in the development of open-cast mining in deposits of various raw materials.
Under the guidance of Professor L. G. Gertman, 10 master's theses in mining were defended.
For many years he was the editor-in-chief of various scientific collections of the Tashkent City Pedagogical University. The total length of work of L. G. Gertman in geology and mining of Uzbekistan was 45 years.
Awards and recognition
- L. G. Gertman was awarded three diplomas of the Supreme Council of Uzbekistan, USSR medals.
- In 1952, by order of the Minister of Coal Industry of the USSR, he was awarded the personal title of “Mining Engineer and Director of I Rank”.
