Biography
The name comes from al-Iran. * Uxta-tama-šyāta- (with haplology ) 'happy in the greatest rumor of himself' [1] .
Octamasad came to power in the Scythian kingdom as a result of a dynastic coup and the subsequent execution of his brother Skil . A relative of the Odrisian king Sitalka [2] . It is possible that the brother of Oktamasad Orik (Arich), famous for Herodotus and numismatic materials, was a representative of the first Scythian protectorate in Olbia [3] .
Probably, it was with the support of Octamasad and Sitalka to power in the kingdom of Bosporus in 438 BC. e. Spartok I came [4] , after which "the growing tendency to strengthen the Scythian protectorate in Olbia suddenly breaks off ... power again passes entirely into the hands of Greek tyrants " [5] . Judging by the further development of events, the Bosporus kingdom among the Hellenistic "partners" of the Scythians occupied a dominant position [6] [7] .
The same name was given to the son of the king of the Sinds, Gekatei and the representative of the ruling dynasty of Iksamats Tirgatao , known for the votive epigram from Labrys [8] .
