Station Design

In December 2010, a draft extension of the Kurenev-Krasnoarmeyskaya metro line from the Vystavochny Tsentr station to Odessa Square was presented at a board of the city planning council [3] . According to this project, it was planned that the Hippodrome station would be single-vaulted. However, the project was subsequently amended. In December 2011, new renderings were introduced, according to which the station will be a three-span column, with a gallery above one of the tracks [4] .

Exit chambers were built behind the station for prospective branching of tunnels towards the Teremki-II housing estate.

Construction

The construction of the station began in the fall of 2011. As of February 2012, the foundation pit of the future station was partially disclosed. Two tunneling mechanized complexes at the end of September 2011 began the construction of distillation tunnels from the Vystavochny Tsentr station. On February 28, 2012, the right distillation tunnel with the station pit [5] was disrupted , and on April 10, 2012 the left one. As of the beginning of October 2012, the station is ready for construction, exits have been built and finished. On October 20, 2012, a test train arrived at the station [6] .

Features of the organization of movement

Only one platform temporarily worked at the station - shuttle traffic to the Exhibition Center station was organized along the first path. This traffic pattern is organized due to the fact that at the Hippodrome station there is no track development for train traffic. The station was planned to be opened simultaneously with the Teremki station, at which the turnover would be carried out. However, due to lack of funding, the opening date of the Teremki station was postponed to 2013 [7] .

Rename Suggestions

The Commission on Names and Commemorative Tokens of the Kiev City State Administration (KSCA), with the filing of the Ukrainian Language Society of the T. Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, supported the idea of changing the design name of the Kiev metro station “Hippodrome” to “Odessa” [8] .

There is a certain tradition when there is a metro station on the outskirts of Kiev , which symbolizes a certain direction with its name - Minsk , Chernihiv , Kharkov ... Now there will also be Odessa, moreover, it is connected with Odessa Square, which is located nearby

- said a member of the commission on names and commemorative signs of the executive body of the Kiev City Council (KSCA) Alexander Briginets [8]

However, the relevant Commission on Culture and Tourism of the Kiev City Council in September 2012 did not support this proposal [9] .

The city council at the meeting of deputies on November 1, 2012 did not support the renaming of the just opened station to Odessa (for 12 deputies out of 61 necessary) [10] .

In addition, the station "Odessa" is already present in terms of the development of the Obolonsko-Teremkovskaya line as the extreme on the southern side of the line, after the station "Teremki".
