Paludarium

Paludarium

Paludarium ( Latin palus - swamp ) is a transparent reservoir with an artificially created semi-aquatic habitat for the maintenance of aquatic , including marsh and coastal plants , significantly rising above the surface of the water [1] , as well as animals [2] . A paludarium can simultaneously have signs of an aquarium and a terrarium .

In the paludarium, an irrigation system is needed, or manual spraying of plants (2-3 times a day [1] ), maintaining a certain temperature, the presence of lighting equipment. In a closed paludarium, blowing of the front glass is required to prevent it from fogging.

Not widespread in view of the complexity of manufacture and operation. Indeed, the aquarium must be closed so that water does not evaporate and dust does not enter. In a closed paludarium, the walls fog up above the waterline and prevent the observation of plants. As a result of this, it is necessary to use complex engineering systems to ventilate the front wall or to moisten plants with an open structure. In the open paludarium, it is necessary to use a plant irrigation system due to the rapid evaporation of moisture.
