Biography
Born in 1874 [2] . By origin - a Scotsman, the son of a professor at the Department of Physics and Physical Geography of Kazan University, R. A. Collie. Mother, Maria Vladimirovna, is an outstanding pianist and singer, around whom a circle of Moscow intelligentsia united.
He graduated from the Moscow Kreiman Grammar School, then - the Physics and Mathematics Department of Moscow University .
Upon graduation, at the suggestion of P. N. Lebedev , he studied the dispersion of electromagnetic waves in pure substances and their mixtures in the laboratory of N. A. Umov .
Then he was sent abroad: in the laboratory of the Berlin Physical Institute, he worked for the famous German scientist Drude , in GΓΆttingen - in the laboratory of Nernst . Returning to Russia, he took the place of privat-docent in Odessa. He defended his doctoral dissertation "The study of dispersion in the electrical spectrum of liquids" [3] . He was elected professor of physics at the University of Warsaw , where he worked until 1915 and organized a physics laboratory.
In 1915 he was evacuated to Rostov-on-Don along with other teachers at the University of Warsaw. Under the guidance of Professor A. R. Collie, physical laboratories of the future Rostov University were created in Rostov, where serious scientific work had already begun in 1916. [four]
According to his methodology, students worked in the field of electric spectrum research - N. N. Obolensky, K. I. Ivanov, E. V. Bogoslovsky .
Member of the constitutional democratic party , was elected a member of the Rostov city party committee, and in 1917 he went to the City Duma on the list of cadets.
He was killed by the Red Guards in February 1918 in Rostov-on-Don, after the occupation of the city by the Red Army.
