Champion of Canada 1969. Silver medalist of the Canadian Championship 1965. Winner of the Canadian Open and US Open (both in 1973). British Columbia Provincial Champion 1963 and 1966 Member of interzonal tournaments in 1967 and 1970. The Canadian team included a participant in eight chess olympiads ( 1964 - 1984 ) and a bronze medalist in the 1971 world student championship, a participant in the 1965 youth world championship (he won the side final, ahead of another future grandmaster R. Keane ).

Biography
Born in San Francisco. As a teenager he moved to Canada. He lived in Vancouver. He studied chess under the guidance of master E. Machkashi .
He graduated from the University of British Columbia . Has a bachelor's degree in mathematics.
He played in the Canadian Championships since 1961. Also, in 1965 he took part in the US Championship (he had the right as the holder of dual citizenship ).
In 1966, he officially became a citizen of Canada.
In fact, he fulfilled the norm of the international grandmaster back in 1968, but received the title only in 1972, when he met the qualification requirement for the number of games played with other grandmasters.
Since the mid-1980s stopped participating in full-time competitions.
In 2008, he published a three-volume edition of his games with detailed commentaries on Chess on the Edge. Sattles' student FIDE master B. Harper , grandmaster J. Seyravan and ICCF grandmaster J. Berry took part in the work on the book.
