History
Greenlo received the status of the county capital in 1596 and became the first city to receive such a status after the conquest of Berik by the British in 1482 . In 1661, Parliament passed a law according to which the county capital was transferred to Dans , but thanks to the efforts of Earl Marchmont and Baron Greenlaw in 1696, Greenlaw again became the capital. Around the same time, the present village of Grinlo emerged: before that, the settlement was about ten kilometers from Grinlo, in a place known as Old Grinlo.
Attempts to transfer the capital were again undertaken in 1739 , 1790 and 1810 , however, they were successful only in 1900 [1] .
During World War II , Polish troops were stationed in Greenlo.
